After our walk down memory lane it was time to cut the cake. The cake was displayed in the room adjacent to the dining area (the same place where we watched the video).Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 02105 {Photo by SIL Pinot}We placed framed photos of our parents and grandparents around the cake. My original idea was to use vintage photo frames from local thrift stores (a very eco-friendly choice) but they turned out to be much too difficult to locate. With my stress levels rising and my savings account decreasing we decided to go to the ever-reliable Michaels. We located these simple metal frames that were inexpensive and super light (to save on shipping costs!).Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 01907 {Photo by SIL Pinot}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 01908 {Photo by SIL Pinot}We decided to pass on the traditional wedding cake and instead serve a delicious desert made by the pastry chef at Auberge du Soleil. We still wanted to honor the tradition of cutting the cake so we ordered a small 7″ cake to be delivered from a local bakery, Sweetie Pies. I purchased the cake stand on eBay for $10! It was very tarnished but with a quick polish it looked new again! I always love when I can save money and the environment at the same time!Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 02009 {Photo by SIL Pinot}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 020010 {Photo by SIL Pinot}To cut the cake we used an antique cake knife that my great grandparents had for their wedding. The knife is handcrafted silver and has an “R” on the handle for their married name.Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 020011 {Photo by SIL Pinot}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 020012 {Photo by SIL Pinot}The staff at Auberge came through again and put out the plates, forks and glasses of wine. I would never have thought to ask for this and without their help we probably would have been eating cake with our hands (no doubt upping the probability of cake smashing!).Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 00902 {Jim Forneris Photography}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Img 020013 {Photo by SIL Pinot}Our photographer grabbed us for a quick shot before our guests gathered for the show!Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 003 {Jim Forneris Photography}Finally it was time to cut the cake! Mr. Pinot Noir pinky-swore to me that there would be no cake smashing. I told him my makeup was too expensive to be ruined by cake! He can be pretty sneaky though so I was a little bit nervous that he might conveniently forget about our agreement.Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 01105 {Jim Forneris Photography}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap 2975607 {Guest Photo}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 01201 {Jim Forneris Photography}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap 3126762 {Guest Photo}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 01202 {Jim Forneris Photography}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 01203 {Guest Photo}Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake : wedding cake napa valley pictures recap Dsc 01204 {Guest Photo}Oh no… Here he comes! I know I have gained weight since I bought my wedding dress, but I never knew how bad it was until I tried it on again a few days ago. Not long after I bought the dress, I decided to stay FAR away from it until I started going to the gym because I honestly didn

Kristen recently gave us tips on swapping decorations – but what if you’re too shy to ask your friends to share? The Bride’s List aims to be a sort of Craig’s List for brides: You can shop, trade or give things away. Right now there seems to be little activity on the site, but it’s free so it doesn’t hurt to try it. Otherwise, you can always go to Craig’s List directly – a quick search in my hometown yielded everything from gowns and place card holders to punk wedding cover bands and bride and groom beer bottle covers.I guess the real question is what can’t you find on Craig’s List?SourceSource

Christmas Cards

As a sign of our unity as a couple and our infinite grownup-ness, Mr. Blueberry and I will be sending out Christmas cards for the first time! This involves the ceremonial removing of “&; Miss Blueberry” and “&; Mr. Blueberry” from our respective parents’ cards, and mailing out ones of our own.Me being me, I had to DIY. So last weekend my mom and I went to Michaels for two value-packs of folded cards (25 cards and envelopes for $3.99), some Christmas-y scrapbooking paper, and a spool of very narrow, sheer red ribbon. Using Mom’s scrapbooking paper cutter, I trimmed the scrapbook paper to several 2″x3″ pieces and glued one onto the front of each folded card. Then I cut a 2″ and a 3″ length of ribbon and stuck them crossways across the scrapbooking paper. Finally, I cut more ribbon and tied a small and simple bow. I attached that at the top of the “package” and voila…a semi-3D picture of a present! Using gold ink I stamped “Merry Christmas” at the top of each card and a Christmas tree on the back of each envelope. Christmas Cards : wedding holidays kansas city Card card.jpgChristmas Cards : wedding holidays kansas city Card2 card2.jpgThen I stamped some little red snowflakes on the back of each card and wrote “made by Miss Bluberry, under the supervision of Mr. Blueberry.”Christmas Cards : wedding holidays kansas city Card3 card3.jpgInside the cards I wrote short personal messages (in green ink), we both signed, and stuck ‘em in the mail! It just took me a couple hours overall to do all this, and while they’re not perfect and certainly aren’t fancy, I think they’re cute enough :) .Are you sending out Christmas cards? Are you doing it alone, or with your SO/fiance/hubby?
