Part XVIII: Cutting the Cake
Uncategorized
After our walk down memory lane it was time to cut the cake. The cake was displayed in the room adjacent to the dining area (the same place where we watched the video).
{Photo by SIL Pinot}We placed framed photos of our parents and grandparents around the cake. My original idea was to use vintage photo frames from local thrift stores (a very eco-friendly choice) but they turned out to be much too difficult to locate. With my stress levels rising and my savings account decreasing we decided to go to the ever-reliable Michaels. We located these simple metal frames that were inexpensive and super light (to save on shipping costs!).

{Photo by SIL Pinot}We decided to pass on the traditional wedding cake and instead serve a delicious desert made by the pastry chef at Auberge du Soleil. We still wanted to honor the tradition of cutting the cake so we ordered a small 7″ cake to be delivered from a local bakery, Sweetie Pies. I purchased the cake stand on eBay for $10! It was very tarnished but with a quick polish it looked new again! I always love when I can save money and the environment at the same time!

{Jim Forneris Photography}Finally it was time to cut the cake! Mr. Pinot Noir pinky-swore to me that there would be no cake smashing. I told him my makeup was too expensive to be ruined by cake! He can be pretty sneaky though so I was a little bit nervous that he might conveniently forget about our agreement.

Eons ago, weeks after getting engaged, I had come across this post by Mrs. Apple and not only was I bawlin
Kristen recently gave us tips on swapping decorations – but what if you’re too shy to ask your friends to share? The Bride’s List aims to be a sort of Craig’s List for brides: You can shop, trade or give things away. Right now there seems to be little activity on the site, but it’s free so it doesn’t hurt to try it. Otherwise, you can always go to Craig’s List directly – a quick search in my hometown yielded everything from gowns and place card holders to punk wedding cover bands and bride and groom beer bottle covers.I guess the real question is what can’t you find on Craig’s List?SourceSource

Then I stamped some little red snowflakes on the back of each card and wrote “made by Miss Bluberry, under the supervision of Mr. Blueberry.”
Inside the cards I wrote short personal messages (in green ink), we both signed, and stuck ‘em in the mail! It just took me a couple hours overall to do all this, and while they’re not perfect and certainly aren’t fancy, I think they’re cute enough
