My family is throwing my bridal shower for me, which is totally sweet. Mr. Kiwi’s family is ALSO throwing me a bridal shower. Never would I have thought I’d have two groups of people who love me that much.
Last night, I was kept awake by all my “to-dos” for my showers (and other wedding stuff, too). When one side of your family is hosting a party for you, do you invite the other side of your family? I ask because my mom’s side is throwing my shower, but do I invite my dad’s side? My parents aren’t together, and I can’t remember the last time my mom has seen them. I know there aren’t any hard feelings amongst my family, though, and doubt they’d cause a problem (either side), but I still wonder. On the other hand, Mr. Kiwi’s mom is also throwing a shower for me. Do I invite my Dad’s side to this shower? They’ve never met before, and I worry it will be a little awkward. And do I invite my mom’s side to this shower and my in-laws to my other shower, too? I’m just worried people won’t get along, or will be a little strange around all these people they don’t know.As you can tell, I’m slightly concerned about this shower thing.
Do people (friends or family) get invited to all showers? I don’t want people to think I’m selfish because they’re invited to both. How did you work out the guest list for your showers?

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a part of your world! I love reading about all of the DIY projects that everyone is working on and can’t wait to share mine with you too!Just a little about myself…Mr. Raspberry and I live in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC and are planning the wedding from here, but will actually be getting married in my hometown, just 30 miles outside of Buffalo, NY. I feel so fortunate that we live in DC and are so close to NYC so we will be able to plan an exquisite wedding and hopefully save a little money along the way by getting married outside of the city. Our wedding is in July, 2007, so we have a little time, but for a crazy DIYer like me, there is sooo much to do before then and the time will go fast! I am thrilled that I will be able to share great info about DC and online vendors that I have been working with and look forward to hearing about things you are doing too!

Areum wanted an engagement ring/weddingb band set so they’d match, but a very unique e-ring caught her eye that’s almost impossible to match unless she spends a lot of money. Another one of my finds when I was in Vietnam was the wholesale embellishment district. It was basically a huge marketplace of back alleys, tiny stalls, and aisles and aisles of really cool things – you could barely walk through them. It was small, stuffy, and hot, but totally worth it! I found bags and bags of thousands of cute buttons, small bow embellishments, shiny satin ribbons, organza rosettes, etc.Anyways, last night I intended to make my table numbers with the little swarovski crystals I bought a while back, but since I couldn’t find them, I decided to experiment with buttons. Here are my results:

They look a little “special”
but overall, I think not a bad first attempt! I am planning to hang these off of my votive trees in the center of the table.

I told you guys earlier about the problems I had with the local bridal salon where I purchased my custom veil. I ended up calling the store and explaining everything that happened. They let me know that the woman who I had been working with no longer worked for the store.
