Kristi + Ravi
This is SOO beautiful!
Can someone tell me where the reception was held? Thanks!
I was honored to attend this wedding and it truly was full of love and light! Kristi and Ravi did an amazing job. It was the most fun wedding we’ve ever attended!! great job you guys!
The veil: I knew right off the bat that I was going to make a veil out of sari material. I searched all the shops in Jackson Heights(NY), Edison(NJ), and finally the fabric district and came upon the perfect orange material! At the time, I didn’t know how I was going to make it exactly but I knew I would figure it out. I put it together on a hair comb and used it for my fittings etc to get the idea across. My fabulous seamstress (Sarah Jassir) offered to help me make it look professional… she cut it to make it wrist length and from the pieces that were cut she took each sequin off and scalloped them along the edge to finish it! It was amazing. I also envisioned that it would hook onto my hands so when I reached out it would spread like a peacock, so she attached small loops that fit on my fingers. At different times throughout the day I had them attached and it was gorgeous.
All of the outdoor photos are in and around the LES Thompson in the Lower East Side. We had a ball during the photos, stopping traffic… I can’t tell you how many random people have pics of us on their cell phones!
Amazing, with a capital “A”!! I love their approach…meaningful without a heavy hand. I couldn’t have said it better! This is my color scheme too and I’m struggling with the suit color – could the bride could share the color and where the suit is from? Thanks!
Photo Locations: I love that photo too!! That picture was taken at the LES Thompson Hotel (Penthouse Loft). We rented it for the rehearsal party, for the ladies’ getting ready suite and for our wedding night. It was an amazing space full of so many modern details. It also has a long terrace and AMAZING views of the city. It really allowed us to get amazing shots! We even had a little romantic morning after breakfast alone together the next day! It was great!
Wedding planner: Ravi and I designed and art directed every element of the wedding and were super hands-on. We wanted every detail to be right… we even came up with some of the signature cocktail recipes and how they wold be served and garnished. We design events and branded experiences for a living both in our full time jobs and together in a company we started on our own so the details were very important to us! I really wanted to do the whole thing myself but you soon realize that you can’t be decorating or breaking down chairs on the day of when you are the BRIDE!!! We decided to look for someone to help us and hired Preeti Shah and the staff at Spotlight Style to help source vendors and execute our vision on the day of. She helped us find our awesome caterer, Devi restaurant and amazing interfaith reverend, Susanna Stefanachi Macomb. My advice to anyone planning a wedding is to at least invest in a person to coordinate the day of… especially if you are in a loft or the like where everything needs to be brought in. No matter how much of a control freak you are, you will want someone taking care of stuff while you party away!
I love thoe photo with Kristi and her bridesmaids all looking up at her!! Where was that taken?
Here are some responses to some of the questions…because I relied so much on these amazing blogs to help get inspiration for ours!! And of course to give credit to everyone who helped us play out our dreams!
The Groom’s suit(s): I’m not sure whether you are referring to the Indian Sherwani or the Black suit so here is the info for both. The sherwani is by the Indian designer, Prriya and Chintans. We saw it at a store in Jackson Heights but it was not in the colors we wanted so I found a local designer (Attache) who had connections to Prriya and Chintans and they allowed us to get it custom made in the colors we wanted. I chose from a thread chart in hopes it would turn out how we imagined.. and it did! It was a light gunmetal raw silk with gold and light gray embroidery and white stones. It looked great on Ravi!! The other suit was amazing too. He felt so good in it and looked good too! It was a Boss by Hugo Boss stretch fabric suit in black. I thought the orange socks and burnt orange Hermes tie were really fun additions! We got all the groomsmen orange Pantone cufflinks too!
FABULOUS!! The use of vibrant colors is just divine. Her hennah, headpiece, and orange veil are just perfection. What a stunning and fun day, and a seamless blending of cultures.
Reception Location: The venue was awesome! It’s called Studio 450. It has the rooftop, a mezzanine and the main loft with huge window walls, shiny white floors and some lounge furniture provided. It gave us the perfect modern twist we were looking for!

I’m loving the colors!
After spending the last year and a half planning our wedding I have the wedding bug! If you are looking for someone to help you bring your ideas to life; blend cultures, create an overall look and feel, design invite suites etc, brainstorm unexpected ways to express your unique story, or even just help you pull it together… please reach out to me as I would love to help out. It was so fun to “brand” and plan our wedding that we are focusing more on the event aspect of our business in the upcoming months and you can imagine that I am still very much in the wedding mindset! Please email me at play@monkeywhat.com if you are interested in learning more!
Decor: I own most of the fabric as none of the rental options out there seemed to be what we were looking for. I also made a lot of the decor such as the ribbons (each flower on there was handmade by my very crafty mother and my sewing machine never saw so much action!) Our entire spare bedroom is full of all the candles, holders, fabrics, pillows, ribbon decor etc… my husband’s parents actually had another wedding ceremony in Toronto the following weekend for all the guests that couldn’t travel to NYC and we reused a majority of the decor there. It was just as stunning!
Love these pictures! Where in NYC were they taken?
What a beautiful color combination, was there a wedding planner used for this event. If so who was it, Im looking for someone who can also put together my multi cultural wedding.
Hello all! Thanks for all your fabulous comments. We are so excited that our wedding is an inspiration. We put so much time, love and effort planning every detail of it and it made the day so personal and special… reading these responses is icing on the cake!! What a treat!!
Colored veils are an amazing trend and this is a PERFECT example! Great use of color, can’t wait to see the rest of the shots.
